Fredrik Söderbaum, committee member of the Development Research School, writes in the Swedish newspaper, Göteborgsposten (GP), about the need for a paradigm shift within Swedish aid. The op-ed relates strongly to Söderbaum's ongoing doctoral course "Making Foreign Aid Work: Managing tensions between top-down and bottom-up approaches", at the Development Research School.

In the op-ed, Söderbaum writes (the text below has been translated from Swedish to English):

"The new (Swedish) government campaigned on a radical overhaul of aid policy, but has so far been sparse in explaining what this means. The new direction for aid should move away from traditional gift aid to a broad and holistic development co-operation, with new thinking on ownership and locally driven development processes [...]".
