13 doctoral researchers from universities across Europe and Africa gathered in Lund to present their ongoing work and discuss development research topics.
On 23 - 24 October, the Development Research School hosted an international PhD workshop in Lund (Sweden) with the purpose of bringing development research doctoral students from a broad range of backgrounds together. The event was an opportunity for the doctoral researchers to network and present their ongoing work.
The workshop programme included parallel paper sessions with presentations of the participants' doctoral projects. Each presenter received feedback from a senior scholar as well as their fellow workshop attendees. Presentations were also held by the Organizing Committee from the Development Research School, highlighting the diversity within the development research field and offering skills training.
Examples of projects presented by the doctoral researchers were "Politics of Mineral Governance: The case of Ghana’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) Sector", "Gender relations in Rwanda's agriculture - continuity or change?", and "MIDWIZE - Strengthening midwives to lead quality improvements to optimise maternity care in Uganda”.
This was the the first edition of the Development Research Phd Workshop and both organizers and the attending doctoral researchers were pleased with the event.
The workshop was lively and engaging, and I believe it was a rewarding event for the PhD students, discussants, and organizers alike!
